I was already working on the assumption that as much as possible
should go upstream, and the components you list above are the
approximate areas that should be considered as candidates. :)

However to help clarify my previous comments, when I look at the
specifics on a line-by-line basis for where each particular change
should be made, I find it is nowhere near as immediately obvious as
you seem to imply on the question of exactly which component or script
should take on the modification, especially when there were large
numbers of places (each with different abstraction and generality
trade-offs) where it could be done.
