To me the definition sounds a lot like legalese.
You and a few others might agree, it means a certain thing, but I
prefer examples for illustration.
It should be clear what is meant by
producers (is already defined in Overview)
general software
special contracts
output emitted (=binaries built from source?)
general consumers
I guess there can be other cases, where producers are
doxygen/javadoc/imagemagick ... but most of those path outputs are for
human consumption, not for machine consumption
