[diffoscope] diffoscope - Excessive memory usage?

Hello,
Potentially user error here, but hoping for some ideas.
I pulled the latest diffoscope container image to compare two 4.7GB DVD
ISOs of the same disc. After starting it, it quickly used all 16GB of RAM
on the machine, and then another ~8GB of swap.
When I saw it hitting the swap, I knew it was going to take a while, so I
left it for an hour, and then came back to ... no output. No obvious crash
or failure output, no normal output, just back at the prompt.
I'm running it again, but am I wrong for trying to use the tool this way?
Should I expect to need this much RAM for this, is my computer not high
spec enough to diff single layer DVDs?
